Default special tools needed for rear main seal job?

ok,the xj is throwing a quart of oil out of the rear main seal about every 300 miles now, time has come I have to do something about it and replace the seal. are there any special tools that would make this job easier/quicker for me? I have all the basic hand tools and air power if needed. just wondering what I can use that might save a little time/effort,and any other tips to make the job easier would be appreciated I will have to have the jeep up and running again in a days time,so time is important ....thanks,Ben

Default Re: special tools needed for rear main seal job?

When I did mine, I had to use an air hammer and small punch to break the top half of the seal loose from the groove it sits in. Also buy a bunch of disk brake or carb cleaner and get the surfaces as clean as you possibly can prior to installing the new seal. This is actually a tricky job to get a good seal so use a manual and follow it to the letter. Also you will need anaerobic sealant. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
