a budget boost idea?

what if i got the Rusty's 2" Budget boost which includes front spacers and rear AAL........... and then kept my eye out for F150/V8 grand coils and MJ shackles to combine for a total of 3" to 3.5"

my reasoning is that i have the 90 to mess with and cut up...but the 96 is wonderful ...i want below 4 inchs so i can stay away from vibes and SYE..... and money

Why mess with that stuff at all if you wanna save dough and it is gonna be a toy? Remove the swaybars and the inner front (plastic) fender liners, hack the fenders and get taller tires from a salvage yard. Way cheaper and I would imagine you'll wind up with even more room for the 30's the budget boost will let you ride.
You'll get the ground clearance and that is the important part.
Then you can flex it on the cheap 'till the back windows pop out....

i'm not hacking anything on the 96 ...it is wonderful and is pampered...the 90 gets the cutting...just looking for a cheap way to get a couple inchs on her...the safe way

get some dakota leafs or the like and add a few to the rear buy some new 3" coils for 99$ shocks for a 4 " lift and yj brake lines . youll need either a new trac bar or a drop bracket , thats the cheapest decent way to get some lift

or you could just buy a full length add a leaf and some 30$ spacers for the front and call it done

how hard would it be to just double up my leafs....like use everything in my old leaf pack but the main leaf? and then just get shackles and coils?

or would that be a rough ride?

I just did some dakota leaves in the rear.

I used the following stack

XJ Main
RE AAL
Dakota Second
Dakota Overload

This netted me 3.75 inches over the saggy stock that I had. I have had a few people tell my that it still looks a little saggy but they do not ride too bad and flex decently.

You could cut the eyes off the Dakota main and place it where I had the RE spring. My target was for 3.5 to 4 inches of lift.

I'm not a proponent of "butchering" vehicles of any kind. That said, fender mods can be accomplished w/o sacrificing "curb appeal". "Doubling" spring packs will yield a nasty ride in an otherwise "unladened" xj. The Dakota spring mod is the better option but you should keep in mind that you are adding a few leaves to an already weakened pac.
I've never heard discussed (at least on this forum) swapping air shocks for OEM units but if clearance and leveling is what you are after they might be a reasonable and cost effective alternative for the rear. Spacers in the front are easy and I think scratch built alternatives to the pricey aftermarket units have already been suggested.

DO NOT USE AIR SHOCKS. The shock mounts really were not designed to take that type of loading, ie carrying the weight of the vehicle, and they honestly SUCK as a shock absorber.
As far as adding the dakota leaves, the idea is to get rid of all but the main XJ leaf, and having the main dakota leaf cut off at the eyelets allows that spring to do the main load carrying under your main XJ leaf, so it really isn't a bad thing. If you just add all the dakota leaves to all your xj leafs not only are you gonna end up with more lift than you wanted or needed but yes you will have a rough ride. I have had many people ride in my jeep and comment on how nice the ride is for a lifted non stock jeep, even my uncle who has a very bad messed up back didn't have a complaint about the ride.

ok so heres the layout.... found out that a friend owns an offroad shop downtown....so i went down to talk with him and look at his work...quality.. anyways he has a set of F150 coils already that he'll give me...so i am planning to do this...

1. put my BFG 30's on next week
2. look around for a set of MJ shackles
3. when found put those and free F150 coils on jeep
4. buy a 2inch BB with spacer and full length AAL from RE or Richard (fullsize) along with extended shocks
5. net around 3.5 inchs lift
6. save up for the 4.5 inch RE superflex kit

its been awhile since LEVE left that i've seen someone do a post like that..lol
