3.7 liters get the 8.25 rear with 3:78 gears. I think the 4 bangers get the D-30 with 4:10's

I believe engine choice doesn't matter, it's whether you choose the 2 or 4 wheel drive. Two wheel drive version get the Chrysler 8.25 and the four wheel drives get the Dana 35. An IFS version of a Dana 30 is in the front of all models.

And from what I have read, the dana 30 front uses a larger diameter pinion stem and larger bearings. This makes this dana 30 unique to the KJ and not interchangable with any others offered by Jeep.

I like it just fine thanks. the only shortcoming so far is strictly off road oriented and that is the lack of clearance under the IFS. I've got 3/4 of the 2 1/2" rusty's lift kit on hand but am still waiting for the long front struts to complete the kit.I've taken it out on some relatively easy trails here in norcal (not fire roads but trails with moderately rocky sections) and it's performed real well even though I find I'm using the front skid plate pretty often. Tranny skid plate is on order from rusty's and I'm waiting for ORGS to finish fabrication of the nerf bars (or alternately I will fab my own) before I venture out onto the Rubicon with it.

Sorry to take so long with the reply, Andy.....the literature I was given doesn't say specifically what rear axle the Liberty has. I can tell you that you can get it with either a 4.10 ratio (with the 4 cyl engine and manual trans) or a 3.73 (V-6, either trans). The 3.73 rear also can be had with Trac Lok limited slip.
