Default Truck Engine Swap

>>>Hello to you all. Usually I don't wander from the Ford boards, but, I have a friend with an 87 Commanchee truck(1/2 ton I think) that needs some advice. What I know about Jeep trucks would take up less space than my first sentence, so, I come to you devoted people for some advice and info. The owner of the truck is interested in swapping the 2.5 litre(GM isn't it?) for a larger more powerful engine. I assumed the best swap would be the 4.0. Do these motors share tranny bolt patterns, motor mounts, or anything else? The truck has a manual 4 spd now. Also, does anyone know if this truck would use a low and high pressure fuel pump(it has throttle body injectioin)? Is there a best year engine for this swap? Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated by me and my friend. TIA. Laters.

Try posting this question on the downsized (XJ ) section. The '87 Commanche is actually built on the same unibody platform as the '84 and up Cherokees(XJ) and is not a full size Jeep. They should be able to ansewer your question.

Yep, try the mid size Jeep board and the short wheelbase board for more info. Another very good source would be Advance Adaptors in CA at 800-350-2223.
