| | Flatbed idea
I have a 75 Wagoneer with a body thats beat to pieces. Is it possible to put a j-truck cab on it without moving body mounts? I want to make a short flatbed and use it for a work truck/mild offroader. There's already a lift kit with 3 thick add a leaves in the rear- I'd probably take at least one out. The fenders in the front would be trimmed. I bought it for parts for a cj, and it didnt run or have a carb. Put a carb on it, tinkered a little, and got the 401 running. Now that the marvel mystery oil has burnt off, it doesnt even smoke. The tranny is a t-18 with the 6.3ish first gear. Do you think this would make a decent work truck? How hard would it be to make a flatbed fit the frame and still have gas tank access? Thanks for your help!

Someone did this to a Cherokee and had it for sale on this board not too long ago. The truck cab has 4 mounts and they look like they line up with the wagoneer's mounts. A flatbed shouldn't be too hard because the wag has a flat cargo area but you need to clear the rear tires if your bed is going to be full width, so you may have to fab some mounts or use body lift spacers. Take into consideration the tire size and how much flex it has. The gas filer is no biggie. Just tilt it until it clears the bottom of the bed or cut it into the side rail like they do commercially. Work truck?-thats what jeeps were built to do.

Thanks. I was thinking about making a diamond plate fender shaped like on trailers or the old willys pickups. I might put 35's on it, but probably just stick with 33's. What inspired me to this is that the body looks like its been rolled- the top of the jeep is twisted on one side. Oh, and the windsheild is busted out.

The old gladiator flatbed versions had only the rear half of the old style fender. It acted as a mudflap I guess.

Why not just cut two 55-gallon steel drums and bolt them to a bracket of square-tubing? Simple, effective, CHEAP, and -uh- ugly! |
