Default Lifting a Grand Waggy

Hody all,

I usually reside over on the SWB*BBS, but a friend of mine just got an '89 Grand Waggy with a 360 and all the options. My question to you is, what is the best way to lift this vehicle, who sells the parts, and how much is needed for 33's? Knowing the owner, he will probably go for whatever the most reasonably priced lift would be. With that in mind, does Pro-Comp make a lift for this vehicle?

Thanks for the info,

G-Man

I ran 4" Skyjacker Softride (all 4 springs) with a 3" bodylift fo fit 33x12.50's on 15x10's You need a bodylift with ANY 4" lift he gets. Now there is a company {URL]www.rustysoffroad.com[/URL] that is coming out with a 6" lift for FSJ's. Not sure how long it will be, but tenatively at the end of this month.

Skyjacker, by far is the most expensive suspension system out there... I got mine in Feb 99 with 4 shocks, stabilizer and drop pitman for $1104

BDS also makes a 4" lift and rought country makes a 3"

Procomp has nothing....

He can look at spending around $600 for a complete setup (shocks, stabilizer and pitman arm) on the average

Try to stay away from suspension KITS (rear blocks) THEY SUCK!!!! totally degrade the performance of ANY lift.

I would try to persuade him to go Skyjacker for the top Quality ride and AWESOME tweakability... not just cuz I own it.... but it has been proven by many FSJ owners of the IFSJA. Worth the wait in my book to save the $$ up to buy the Skyjacker.

78 Wagoneer

14" total lift

I'm really interested in posts to this question. I have an '83 Wag that I want to lift too but I don't know much about it yet. I want a lift that will give me better performance 4x4ing. Can anyone clue me in on the details of having the springs rebent and adding extra? Does this automatically mean new shocks that compensate for the change? Any help here would be great.

Rusty's kit is $499 and includes 4 springs, u-bolts, break line brackets, and his shocks. I've heard his lifts ride pretty well, maybe a little on the stiff side. His shocks are susposed to be the hardest things know to man kind and the break line barckets are susposed to be useless. So I would order just the springs, u-bolts, then his extended stainless break lines $59 fornt $29 rear. For shocks I'd go for some rancho rs5000's which go for about $35 a piece but sometimes you can get them cheep on sale at sears, also get a rancho steering stablizer and he should be set. He might need driveshaft mods, and he should keep in mind his gear ratio, he may be at the 2.73 or 3.31 ratios which definetally need a re grear when you go to 33's.

My friend SOAed the front on his '78 Cherokee. If I had a FSJ that is what I'd do, and make a custom shackle hanger in the rear that puts the leaf at the bottom of the shackle. If it was a 2-door (which there are no 2-door G-Wagons) I'd just do extensive sheet-metal removal to fit up to...38s or so. Then a body lift, or 4" lift springs, if I ever wanted to run 40-44" tires. Running tires that big though would require stonger axles, which aren't as hard to swap into a FSJ as a SWB Jeep, but still quite a bit of work (and $$$) none-the-less.

But, I dont have a FSJ yet. I just posted this to give you some more options
