Default Welding?!?

I'm getting ready to do some pretty serious mods to the Chief and have a few questions about welding.

1. Can somebody explain the pro's and con's about welding to the frame?
2. Will a 115v 100 amp welder do the job for welding onto the frame? I'm wanting to build custom rocker panel sliders and my own tire carrier. These will require attaching them to the frame.
3. Does any body know about a swing away tire carrier for the cherokees and waggoneers?

If it can't be done from the seat of a Jeep, it don't need to get done!

Default Re: Welding?!?

Welding to any frame can be tricky. What part of the frame are you welding to? The steel in the frame is made from a special spring type steel that allows it to flex, then return to the original position. If your welding to the but end rear you may be ok. Personally thats the only place I'd weld on my truck. It depends on what type of rod you want to use as to the machine you need to use. If you use a 1/8 " or smaller rod, the machine you mentioned should work. However dont plan on alot of non-stop welding.
Any welding on the side rails of the frame may cause serious damage to the steel, allowing it to crack or break under extreme conditions.
