When i was looking for a 176 for my j10, when ever I said "j10 pickup", the guy at the junk yard immediately gave up. The t176 was used in CJ's as well, and while I'm not sure that they are exactly the same, I'd bet that only the t-case adapter is different. Someone, maybe your dad knows the answer to that. anyway, I think that you may have more success if you say you're looking for a CJ trans, not a J10 trans.

Did Doc pass Timex on to you?

If you can't find a t176, try a t18 4sp from a '70s J-series. The main difference will be the bellhousing. Reuse the T176 housing. Jeep AND International Harvester (remember the old Scout trucks?) used them during the '70s. Main difference: IH used a "divorced" t-case, with a very short driveshaft between the T18 and the Dana 18 and 20 t-cases.

I'm big. I'm heavy. I've got true four wheel drive. Therefor, I own the road!

T-176 used a "standard" 6-lug circular pattern on the tailhousing. The T-18 used the 5(?) lug "Texas" pattern.

Almost any NP x-case and D-300 will bolt to the T-176, while the D-18, D-20, and '80 Scout D-300 are the only x-cases that will bolt to a T-18.
