Default 1984 Jeep Wagoneer 2.5 four cylinder

Hey Everybody,

Can anybody tell me what automatic transmission is in a 1984 Jeep Wagoneer, I think it's a 904, 909 or a TF727. I need to try and find a new one and need to know what to look for.

Thanks for your time
Glenn.

The Wagoneer you speak of is a mid sized Jeep; essentially a high end model of the small Jeep Cherokee. BTW, the model designation of your Wagoneer is XJ.

I'm a regular poster over on the Jeep Mid Sized Board and I own a 1996 Cherokee XJ presently and I used to own a 1986 Cherokee XJ.

Your Wagoneer XJ is a fairly rare animal, most Waggies have a 6 cylinder engine, my 86 XJ had the Chevy built 2.8 V-6. The auto transmission for both the 4 and 6 cylinder engines in the 1984-86 models was the Torqueflite 904.

Come on over and visit the Mid Sized Board; there are many XJ owners there who can help alot. Good Luck!!
