Default putting it into 4x4/wiring

full sized Jeep Wagoneer

So, how do you get a 88 Wagoneer into 4 wheel? Being a chevy guy I am used to a lever and some hubs at the most. This thing has a real small lever on the floor marked 4 high and 2 high almost under the driver seat. I tried moving it while rolling, while parked, and with the trans in neutral. But it seemed stuck and I did not want to force it and bend anything.

If it helps, I think it has a New Process transfer case, AMC 360? with all Ford fuel parts and Ford ignition. I think Dana 44 axles.

As a side note, some one did some hacker wiring and basically destroyed everything. Anyone sell a wiring harness for this truck? I would rather buy one than make my own.

There is a switch on the right side of the steering column that locks the front diff in, and the transfer case is sometimes hard to get in and out... I've had to give mine hell more than once...

Check the linkage out under the vehicle. The linkage probably needs a whack or two and some WD-40.
Try shifting the transfer case with the transmission in neutral, some times that makes things easier.
