I want to convert my new '90 Trooper to diesel.

What engines are available? TD?
Anyone ever done this?

Anyone need a V6 with bad bottom end and good top end??

e-mail me direct at dkel@main.com
Thanks
Doug

Doug, check the ITOG "for sale" board, a guy has a rusty '86 Troop TD there cheap, running and everything. You'd have to have the dsl trans as they are different. And be prepared to go REALLY slow, the TD has about 40 LESS HP than the 2.8.

How about a nice 3.4 V6 in place of that broken 2.8? Can you say "direct bolt-in" and "40 MORE HP"????

Good Luck....ed

Ed,
I saw the one on ITOG and have contacted the guy.
I'm not into speed so the diesel will be fine, as long as it is the Turbo diesel.

Is the diesel trans the same as the 4 cyl gas trans?

I have heard that GM is offering an upgrade where you can put the 3.4 (?) engine in instead of the 2.8 and it is supposed to be cost effective. Do you know anything about this??

Thanks
Doug

Doug, if I recall, you have to use the Diesel Trans with the engine, the gas trans is not the same. Don't quote me on this, though, you might post over at the ITOG board; there are a few diesel nuts there.

The 3.4 Goodwrench crate engine won't work without a lot of massaging to the Trooper bellhousing. The starter in the Trooper 2.8 V6 is located on the drivers side; the normal S-10 position is pssgr side. However, the Camaro/Firebird 3.4, '93-95, has enough meat on the left side boss to be able to template the starter mounting holes, and mount the starter in the normal Trooper position. Other than that, you just transfer over all the 2.8 stuff to the 3.4, and in it goes.

A lot of guys at the ITOG site have done this mod, and I plan on doing it to mine next year. Check out previous posts there; there's a search engine, if you did a query on "3.4" you'll find lots of info. Good Luck....ed

Doug there is a place in Dallas that has import engines at a really good price. Isuzu 2.3 for 795 and the 4 speed tranny with t case for another 395.
You might give them a call at 1 800 9923742.
