76 Traveler consul

Ive got a 76 traveler and the engine/exhaust/road heat just pours threw the center shifting consul. Its an automatic. Ive got to wrape rags or sometype of cloth insulater around it to try and keep this out... not very good but helps. Pulled it off and there is nothing below it except air space and tranny.... what can iI do??? Any help would be greatly appreciated, wouldn't be that bad BUT THE WIFE KEEPS COMPLAINING !!! Now thats a big deal lol

I have to give credit where it is due. Jim_Lou from jeep forum posted some pics of a project with the perfect air tight shift boot. just a simple CV joint boot! looks custom, should last about forever, cheep, simple. What else can you ask for?
