Do you think it could be that the carb is pulling too much CFM for the fuel pump and that is causing the pump to work too hard? I really don't know what it could be, that is just the first thing that came to mind. Or maybe there is some type of obstruction keeping the pump from getting enough fuel through it to keep it cool.

Any chance the fuel pickup in the tank is getting clogged? Such as the sock being dirty and causing the pump to pull excessively hard.

i pulled the stock pump thinkin that,( workin on gravel drive way/ no floor jack whishin that i was in a pool.) anyways the only thing in the tank is 3/8 rubber line. think maybe with no bafels in the tank that the fuel is movin away from pickup, 90 suburban think its a 40 gallon? all i know is that i've got to put in a concrete drive. that thing is heavy when its full. gas gauge don't work so i towed it to the gas station and filled it.thanks again

i tried that, the pump by the motor burned up about 2 seconds after the one by the tank. got laid off so waitin on this till after i findnew job. I think that i will setup a small tank under the hood(about a gallon) with a pump between the two tanks, and next to the carb. might put a chiller can in there to?the line out of the small tank 1/2" see if that helps. it might give me a beter idea of flow? any help or expeirance on this needed, please.
