Studs: Pressed VS. Studded
I just bought a 383 with a ton of work done to it. Long story short, its, bored .060 over, has forged aluminum pistons, a ground crank, it maxes out at 7500 rpm and has a HUGE cam (around 400-450hp) but it still has pressed rockers (crane cam gold roller rockers). I hear that i need studded rockers.
A local auto parts store/machine shop charges $225 4 tapping, installing studs, performance seals, and guides. Heres the kicker they'll tap the heads for $1.50 a head (just removeing the pressed bolts and tapping the head). As for the parts i can order comp cam studs, crane cam seals, and comp cam guides off of Jegs for $80. Thats a huge price diffrence.
$225<$83
Am I missing something? That seemes like a huge price diffrence. And is this a good investment?
