This gets kind of confusing because GM didn't convert them all over at the same time. 1988 was the first year for the 1/2 ton IFS trucks. All 1/2 ton trucks made that year were IFS. 1992 was the first year that the Blazers, Jimmys, and Suburbans were IFS. Also the first year that ALL of the 1 tons were IFS, making this the first year that GM only made IFS 4x4 trucks. I think 1991 was the first year you could get IFS 1 tons and 3/4 tons, but I am not certain. Either 90 or 91 you could get 3/4 and 1 ton IFS trucks, but you could also still get them as the old style solid axle trucks. Confusing, huh? 1992 Blazer Sport, 350 TBI, 3" Flowmaster 40 DF, 4L60, K&N, Rancho 2.5" lift, 285/75R16's on 16x8 Bajas |

Yeah, it's confusing, just switch to ford, you know you always have the same thing - crap, nah just kidding. The 88-91 burbans are very nice, so are the blazers. Resurrection Joe - Head Commander/Unit Seven |

Here's what I think: 88 was first year for IFS 1/2 tons 88 was first year for IFS 3/4 tons 92 was first year for IFS blazers/jimmies 92 was first year for IFS suburbans 92 was first year for IFS 1 tons I do not think you ever had the choice of choosing between IFS and a solid axle on the same year truck. |

Actually if I remember right there was atleast one year where they had IFS light duty 3/4 tons and solid axle heavy duty 3/4 tons. But lets not forget the 2 1/2 ton and larger class - they're still solid axle! |

I know a guy with a 1991 IFS 1 ton, and another guy with a 1991 solid axle 1 ton. I'm still not sure about the 3/4 tons, or if the 3/4 ton LD (6 lug) came around at the same time as the regular 3/4 ton (8 lug). 1992 Blazer Sport, 350 TBI, 3" Flowmaster 40 DF, 4L60, K&N, Rancho 2.5" lift, 285/75R16's on 16x8 Bajas |

AJMBLAZER is Right on everything he said I can just add a little clarification, either this will help, or just make it even more confusing 1990 1 tons "regular cab" and "extended cab" were IFS (I have a 1990 1 ton K3500 extended cab IFS) But the crewcab(4door) was still solid axle and the old body style they changed in 91, So all 92 crewcabs were IFS. 1/2 ton changed in 88 3/4 ton changed in 88 1 ton reg & ext cab changed in 90 and 1 ton crewcab changed in 92 Suburban and Full size Blazers & Jimmy's all changed in 92 Scooby Dooby Doo !!! |

You forgot the cab and chassis trucks Scooby! Those were still the "old" body style until 91 and the 4x4's had a solid axle too. You could also get a 4 bbl carb with a C7P 10,500 lb GVW chassis. Otherwise you got the TBI 454. Dad had an 89 2wd flatbed like this. Reg and ext cab 1 tons had IFS in 88. Dad had an 88 K3500 ext cab with a TBI 454 15/ld2500 were availible by about May June 87 as 88's. 89 a HD 2500 was intro'd with a 350 only. To get a 454 and 6.2 you had to get a 3500 SW 8600 gvw truck. 90 the 8600 2500 was availible with all three motors and a 9200 SW 3500 was intro'd. 298GMC with a little help from DAD. The only thing I am confused about on this subject is that the phone company here in my town has the new body (88-98) with the (88-94or95) interior and they are 4x4 single wheel 1 tons with solid axles in front. Were they converted or what?? >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>4X4 |\*\..../*/| |.\*\../*/.| |..\*\/*/..| |../*/\*\..| |./*/..\*\.| |/*/....\*\| ----------- |
