2000 Tahoe 5.3 turns over, won't start, fuel pump not working
2000 Tahoe 5.3 4x4 Auto 210,000 miles. I installed new battery night before. Fuel filter has approx 100,000 miles on it. After dropping wife off at work, on the way out of the parking lot the Tahoe stalled. It hesitated when first accelerating out of the lot. Then it stumbled and idled with little power. Then the engine stopped running. Attempts to start yielded weak idling for 5 seconds until it stopped. On the way to work, Tahoe ran normally. Typically, when I turn key/ignition to "run" the fuel pump runs for 5 seconds--now it does not run. I checked fuses in cabin and power box under hood where I exchanged known good parts with suspect parts. There is approx 5 gal gasoline in tank. No "SES" light. Some YouTube searches suggest that the "PassLock Sensor" is bad. "VATS" was mentioned in the same article. Seems to be associated with Dorman 924-713 Ignition Lock Housing. Fix: "Inside steering column a small switch near ignition switch has bad connection." (author does not specify replacing it or...?) Another suggestion was the "ECM" fuse--I have a couple of those, but I did not check them...I'll do that today. Some owners have replaced the fuel pump, but they have the same problem. Some suggest hitting the gas tank (presumably to shock the in-tank fuel pump and get the motor off of a dead spot). I have not tried that either. Yet another poster says: Fix: Bypass security anti theft system. Or leave your key in the on position for 10-15 mins, then turn off, take key out, then repeat two more times. On the second (actually third?) interval, attempt starting engine. Will try that one next. Next suggestion: Check fuel pump ground that attaches to the frame. I'll give all the above a try tomorrow. Any of your suggestions will be appreciated!
