ive been lookin for axles for the front end of older 10 bolts but they seem to have the pumpkin on the wrong side of what my tranfer case is set up(drivers side shaft). do i need to change the t-case or am i just overlooking something or just looking at things wrong in general? any help with the swap would be nice! bc i beleive i can make and weld up all the bracket points for the leafs but i just need axle ideas and some gear ratio ideas for like 35s but it still being a daily driver... i wanna keep it a standard 6 lug bc i already have the wheels i plan to use on it. i wanna try to keep it on a budget too, i dont have alot of money sittin around to be burnt... lol

Most guys use 70's Ford D44's or D60's since the pumpkin is already on that side.

You'd need to rebuild the axle anyways most likely so you could regear the axles to whatever you wanted. That said I know Fords of the 70's and GM's of the 90's both commonly used 3.55 and 4.10ish gear ratios.
You just swap Chevy D44 or 10 bolt knuckles onto the Ford D44 and viola, 6x5.5" pattern.

is it pretty difficult to do a full rebuild of the bearing and a possible gear change for a first timer? or is it pretty self explanatory if i just take my time? cuz i was figurin on just makin it all a 4:10 ration anyways... and does anybody know what year they stopped makin them in full tubes abd swiched to what the have with the mid 90s fords, is that with that geneartion they altered it or is it some diff year? |

Complicated, detail oriented, and requiring specialized skills and tools. I know guys who have taught themselves to do it but it wasn't easy, exactly cheap, or quick and simple. I'll pay people myself until I have the funds and time to possibly make an expensive screw up. Knew someone who munched a new set of GM 14FF gears figuring he could do it himself.
Ford went to TTB under the 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons in 80. 1 tons were solid axle Dana 60's from 77 or so until 97. There were a few years in the early 80's where the F350's had TTB as well.

i was lookin at a bronco graveyard site and magazine and they had a section where they could build axles for a person... i might go that route depending on the price. seems reasonable from other prices he has. im figurin id only need a d44 for what id be doing.... my biggest concern was keepin it a 6 bolt pattern cuz i already found myself some keystone mags to put on it
