hi. I'm 15 yrs old and will turn 16 on August 28 this year and my dad's giving me my choice of either his 1989 Chevy Suburban Silverado 1500 or my granpa's 87 Chevy Custom Special Pickup. I would like to get into a little offroading with some of my friends here around Dallas or possibly on our farm near Forney, but I don't know much about the cars and was also a little concerned that they are both only 2WD (he wont let me have his 2001 4WD suburban). If anyone had any suggestions about which car would be a better choice (if ive given enough information to even make a good decision) or suggestions about how to improve the trucks without spending too much cash id be very grateful. Thanks a lot.

I'd go for the newer one. Then drive it back and forth to a job until you've saved up enough to buy a 4wd truck to start building off of... Just my opinion though...
Aah and please don't ever call them a "car" or "SUV"... Those terms just don't fly well around here...

I'd take the burb ANY day. Too bad its a 1500 and only 2wd,
but saving up for a 4x4 isn't a bad idea. So go with the burb.

I have an 89 Suburban, and love it. The question you should ask yourself though, is whether you need room for people or cargo.
I can carry lots of people, and stuff too. I can't carry lots of stuff though. Its hard to put 12' long 2x4's in the back of the suburban with the doors propped open.
That's easy for a pickup.
