| | | Chevy 350 blowing oil from valve covers?
Hello...
I have a 1988 Chevy Suburban 350/700r4 with 135K miles. It keeps throwing oil all over the right side. The valve cover is not leaking.
The oil is blowing all over the top. It is either coming from the dip stick or the PCV valve gromet. The PVC has a tight fit. I places a small cloth at the top of the dipstick to see if the oil was coming from there, I do not think it is.
The oil doesn't blow at idle, just when I drive around.
Ideas?
Thank You.

I think with that many miles, your piston rings are showing signs of excessive wear. One simple way to check the rings would be a compression test. I've also had good results with a product called "Engine Restore", sold in most every parts store for about $10 V8 size.
One other idea I have is that most Chevy V8's have a PCV on one valve cover, and the other valve cover usually has a VENT HOSE to the air cleaner. If the vent hose is not connected to the air cleaner, then lots of oily/air vapor will blow out into the engine bay. |

try the o-ring that holds the dipstick to the engine block, other than that just have a freind rev up the engine while you look for the leak, theres alot of places that it can come from |

Thanks.
I do not believe there is an o-ring. I looked... It could have crumbled.... I'll check again.
I will rev the idle and verify....
The right side (passenger) is the side that is blowing oil. The dipstick is on that side. The PVC valve is also on that side. No oil blow on the left side.. |

Could it possibly be ATF from the tranny dipstick? Once that stuff mixes with grease and grime it looks similar to engine oil... I used to have a Chevy that threw up Dexron like it was going out of style. You can buy dipsticks with a little locking lever on top that seals the tube, if that's your problem.
