TH400 just stop working

Hi guys, I'm new here, I tried to find a similar problem, but with no success.

I have a Chevy M1031A with TH400 bought from military auction. Everything works perfect I drove with this Chevy about 500 miles without any problem. I also drive it in real hard offroad again without any problem. Few days ago I just want to put in a garage, drive it forward few feets and want to put a reverse put nothing happend. When I try to put it in park, I heard real bad clicking noices. I checked the linkage under the car and everything seems to be intact. Nothing is loose.

Do you have any idea what can be wrong?

Sorry for my bad english, I live in Europe.

Thank you
Robin

When you shift into park, there is a pin (or "dog") that keys into the transmission output shaft. Bad clicking noises while shifting implies that the output shaft is spinning, and your transmission is likely OK .My best guess is transfer case has slipped to neutral.

I've had similar symptoms before (both when I broke my low range unit on the Jeep's Quadratrac, and when the case got jounced into neutral).

Good luck! Let us know!

You are the best. There was something wrong with the transfer case. Before I start the engine, I put it in 4x4 low and back to 2WD. When I start the engine everything works just it should.

Thank you, I already start looking for a rebulid kit for the tranny

It could be something as simple as worn or broken motor or body mounts. as flex happens the body bumps the shifter into neutral. have a good look around before spending your well earned money on parts
