Give gale banks a call and see if they have a turbo for the NA 6.5 the will fit in an H1. If not, i would try and find a 6.5 TD from a wrecked H1 and swap that in. As for the Duramax option, i think that engine is just too darn big to fit in the tight confines of the H1's engine bay.
Oh for pity's sake. Just put a 24V Cummins in with P7100 mechanical pump.
Hey desertrat67, how much bigger is a 6.6TD than a Vortec 8100, because I've seen a 496 in an H1.
it is a few inches wider and taller. I don't know the numbers, but i know it takes quite a bit of fanagaling to get a big block chevy gasser into one of those. To give a little perspective, a 496 comes from the factory in the 3/4 ton acalanche, but a new frame section and a 2 inch body lift are required to fit one in the same truck. The front portion on the frames of the HD pickups is different depending on whether you have a Duramax or a gasser.
Wow, I'll have to take a look at the service trucks at work then. One is an '03 2500HD w/496, the other is an '04 3500-SRW w/Duramax. I had no idea that the frames varied in size between those two engines, I would've guessed that the frame cradling a diesel was beefier, but that was it. That's crazy.
