Default Lights

I was thinking of getting a light bar with lights for my 1986 chevy k20. I also want to put some lights on my front bumber. I was thinking of using KC lights but which ones are the best. They dont all have to be the same. I want to know a good combination of lights, fog, driving, long range, etc.

Default Lights

It depends on the amount of money you want to spend, HID are some of the best but they have a big price tag, the real question is how much light do you really need and or you want.

Check out my Blazer:

The two lowest fogs are gone now but. The two oval ones are driving kights 55W for use on the street. I have them aimed pretty low to not blind oncoming cars.

The 4 off road lights are KC Daylighters. The outer ones are 100W floods that spread the light out in a mushroom pattern. These light the side of the trail greatly. The inner 2 are 100W pencil beams that shoot a bright beam way out in front. This combo works great!! I used to use 130W bulbs in the pencil beams but they don't last more than 1 trip. I was always replacing them. The 100W bulbs have been in for over a year and the ones in the outer lights have never been replaced.

The only negative thing is that I'm a little disappointed in the quality of the KC lights. I had this same setup about 15 years ago on a Bronco and those old lights seemed to be of much better quality. These newer ones already have some rust in them, They don't seal as well as the older ones and the band clamp that holds the lens in is very cheaply made. I have had them for over 3 years and they still work fine but they just seem much cheaper built than the ones I had before.

Oh, Make sure you have enough charging system capacity to keep everything running and your battery charged. I use a 105 Amp alt with an overdrive pulley. When this alt goes bad, I'm going to get a custom wired one to provide even more juice.

Here's some night pics:

Note that one of the pencil beams is burned out in this pic. The 130Watt ones were junk. The 100Watts last much longer:
