Using winch without solonoid

I have an old Warn winch. It has 2 posts to hook wires to. If I connect the battery straight to it I can get it to go. If I reverse the polarity it goes the other way. any one know how I would wire a switch to use it without the solinoid. I would like it to be able to go both ways. I dont know what kind of switch to use or what size wire I need. I would like the control to be dash mounted.
