Default Bolt-On-Recovery Shackle?

Does anyone know were I can get the Griffin Recovery (or something like it) Bolt on shackle. They seam to be out of business. This is a bolt on recovery shackle that you can install on any flat surface. . . There was an article on the off-road.com site under
off-road/jeep/reviews/griffinrecovery/ . thanks

Or make your own for pennies using two pieces of scrap 3/8" angle iron butted together and drilled out with a 3/4" hole for the shackle. Depending on how heavy your recovery needs are, you could always use thicker angle iron.

Here is a site that has them. I am thinking about ordering a set for my truck, so if you get them from this place let me know how they look!

i'm sure they are underrated, but i wouldnt trust something with a 3ton rating. that's like sailboat line stuff as birddog suggests, build your own or buy the $10 weld-on ones at northern tool that are rated to 46k lbs. if you welded them to 1/2" plate and drilled 4 holes in the plate, they would bolt on to anything as you requested

The 3/4 shackles that I have are only rated for 6400 lbs. I think thats why the manufactures only rate them for 3 tons. Its still a little under, but I would guess that the manufacturer is only covering his butt from getting sued. I wouldnt mind having a set and for $30 that doesnt sound to bad to me. Hey Muddy do you know of a 3/4 shackle that are rated any higher, maybe Warn used the lower weight ones?

I dont know, but any shackle you find for overhead lifting that's rated at 3 tons is going to be good for 10 tons or so... there are huge safety margins in overhead lifting, for obvious reasons. You can assume that the Warn 3 ton shackle is good for at least 6 tons breaking strength, probably more. They will throw in a huge safety factor for the reason you state, liability. I used to have one of those Warn 3/4" shackles (lost it in a swamp) and it was the last thing I would've worried about in an extraction, especially if the pin is loaded to one side where it meets the "wishbone", which it always seemed to do. Search eBay under "Business & Industrial", there's no telling how big you can get those shackles if you're worried.

Not really worried about it. Just curios if there were any higher weight but still in the 3/4 size. But then again the higher weight rating of the shackle justs means I would break the next componant in line. Deffinatly dont need that big thing Mark posted a picture of!!! Wonder what kind of battleship that came off of?!!!
