Default perko switch

I purchased a 78 cj7 and i has a perko switch installed but the second battery had been removed before i purchased it. Can anyone give me advice on how to wiring the second battery? The current battery is run correctly. and i use #1 to start and turn any electrical on. Can i install the second battery and run the pos to post #2 and the neg to the neg on current battery? Plan on installing winch and stereo.
