Saginaw steering box replacement

Folks,

I've been watching eBay for a "Jeep Saginaw steering box" and I've not found anything for the past few months. There are other non-Jeep Saginaw steering boxes available on eBay.

Does anyone know what other steering boxes from other vehicles would be a suitable replacement? I'm not looking for any mod's to be done - hoping for a drop in place solution.

Thanks,

Dana 30 hub upgrades? Studs? 30 spline hubs? Internal hubs?

So I've decided for now to keep the dana 30 in my cj.

Here's the back ground:

I'm going to go with alloy shafts/ super joints, it all ready has a detroit, 4.56's, all new brake parts/ bearings/ seals. My theory is when I start eating detroits/ 4.56's is to swap from the knuckles out onto a dana 44 housing, though I'm crossing my fingers I can make the 30 live with 34's.

Questions I have

Is it worth it to swap from the external style lock outs to internal style lock outs? Is there a junk yard parts collection that will work? I know Warn used to sell the internal lock out conversion, I'm guessing it is discontinued though I am still researching to see if I can find a kit on the shelf some where.

Is it worth it to upgrade from 27 to 30 spline stub shafts? A normal internal lock out dana 44 has 19 spline outers so I'm not sure if an extra 3 splines will make much of a difference. Does any one sell a 30 spline external lock out that bolts on?

Has anyone replaced the bolts to hold their lock outs on with studs? What size studs? Does ARP sell kit/ anyone know the ARP part numbers?

Basically should I run 27 or 30 spline outer shafts and internal or external lock outs?

Thanks,
Andy

I set out a care package at work to gather some gifts to send to forward deployed troops yesterday...and got to thinking.....
Next time you are shopping how about getting a card or even making a card and sending it to a soldier fighting for our ability to sit on the computer and post here and work on our jeeps??? If you need an address to send it to your local recruiter can help, or I’ll get you one if you need it. Just remember that it takes up to 3-4 weeks for them to get mail.

Even if you don’t support the war (and that’s fine) there are KIDS fighting it and they are far from home and some don’t get mail...It sucked when I was one of the kids!!! Even more so during Christmas.
Thanks....
Also Soldiers,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRAFICES

While working on my scrambler Ive come accross MANY issues, But need some help with 2 (right now :D )
1: what do I tourque the rear yoke to on the AMC20
2: my PS only has 1 bolt that holds it in place!!! Did I screw that up? each bracket has 2 bolts in it; adn the power steering pump fits between the brackets. The only holes that line up is a single hole that gose from the front bracket through the PS Pump adjusting slot, and to the rear bracket. Is that all that holds it? its on a 258
Thanks

Softtop zipper problems

I have A besttop soft top on my 98 wrangler sport. The top is fairly new and the side window zippers work fine, until you get to the end where the zippers connect. It seems that the metal pieces that slide into one another are corroded together. I am only able to remove one window completely and it takes two people to put it back on. I was scared to use any tools or wire brushes to clean/ remove the Zippers on the windows for fear of damaging them. I was wondering if there is something I could use to remove the corrosion without damaging the top and what I could do to prevent this from happening in the future .

AAMCO replaced my truck transmission a few weeks ago. 2 weeks ago I started having the same issues as before so I took it back to them. After they had the truck for 2 weeks, they said it wasn't the transmission but a bad fuel pump. They offered to replace it for 800 bucks but I said no way. I got the truck back late on Friday night. (It came back with a exhaust leak) While I was fixing the leak, I noticed that they did drop and replaced the traning, after they told me that wasn't the issue.

Today, I was moving the Jeep out of the garage so I can pull the truck in to fix the exhaust leak and that's when I noticed to big dents on the right aft corner panel on my truck. When I looked closer I saw that they also replaced my bumper with a brand new one. With the new bumper, one of the 2 dents is now behind the bumper so that's other way I know they replaced it.

Did they think I wasn't going to noticed it? It looked like it was a big crash and I think my truck frame my be bent also. I'm so mad that I almost start shaking as I think about the conversation I'm going to have with the owner. He hasn't been easy to work with so I anticipate a fight.

If they refuse to fix the dents, what are my rights?

See attached pictures

A customer had me make a shift link rod for him. It's just a 3/8" tube with a yoke on one end and a metric threaded bung on the other. Nothing fancy, but it 'bout drove me around the bend. For the bung I turned down a an alignment tip on a piece of 1/2" hot-rolled, like this:

I pressed the tip into the tube, TIG welded it together and then put it in the lathe to drill for the tap. The tap was new and cut very nicely until it broke through into the tube. "Job done!" I thought. When I tried to back the tap out it went about an eighth of a turn and stuck. I worked it back and forth, blew compressed air down the flutes to clear the chips, but nothing would free it. Finally it broke off.

So I cut the bung off with a grinder and started over, but this time I held the rod vertically in the vice so that the chips would fall down into the tube, and backed the tap out farther to clear the chips. When it broke through I thought "Job done!" but no, the tap was stuck again! I worked on it a while, but eventually had the same result. And no more M8 1.25 taps in the shop.

The next day I got a couple new taps and tried a third time, but wasn't going to take any chances. Even though the tap was cutting nicely, after every turn I backed it out completely, blew the chips out, put fresh Tap Magic in the hole and restarted the tap. When it came out the bottom I thought "Job done, finally!" but was wrong again! The tap was still stuck, and eventually broke off. Three brand new taps down the chute!

This time I was very careful when I cut the bung off, and here's what I found:

After drilling the hole for the tap, there was only a paper-thin remnant of the alignment bung remaining. When the point of the tap got there the first few starter threads cut into the remnant, but when the full-size threads got there they cut the remnant loose. The tap was started into it enough that it couldn't be pushed off when the tap backed out, so it jammed the tap!

I made a new threaded bung and welded it to the tube. No problem! I'll bet nobody else has ever had that happen. It was an expensive lesson - $30 worth of new taps and several hours of work.

I made a new threaded bung and welded it to the tube. No problem! I'll bet nobody else has ever had that happen. It was an expensive lesson - $30 worth of new taps and several hours of work.
