| | Two ways to get to the archives, you can do an advanced search and adjust the dates accordingly, or you can go to the old bbs.off-road link and it's up again in just an archive form.

| | Good reading info regarding cams. I questioned my brother regarding a reliable 22R engine build in my 4x4, his answer was....
As for your Toy, Just make sure you got the small headers, the big ones loose too much torque on the low end. Stick a webber 38/38 on the original manifold and put in an off road cam (not bigger than 272 duration), a good ignition and that's it. The engine will make decent power and most people don't need more, plus it will be super reliable. I don't think the heads and stuff from LC or DOA are worth it unless you are stuck with the 22R to make power. I see lots of stuff from LC, Its nice stuff & makes much more power than stock but you are limited by an old engine design. Their top engine the stage V makes about 200 hp (double that of stock) The engine I have in the starlet makes 210hp stock (a 2L, 4cyl Toyota Beams black top motor out of an Alteza, the Japanese Lexus IS) If I had a truck like that and I wanted to keep it Toyota I would stick in the 2.7L 4cyl 3RZ engine out of a Tacoma lots more hp and TQ stock and even more bullit proof than the 22R. They have that engine making 1600 hp in the import drag cars. LC even built the engine. |

| I can't really disagree with your brother's comments, but "sticking in" a different engine usually involves more than first blush. First, you either pay someone to do it, or you do it yourself. If you are lucky enough to find someone that knows what they are doing, then you will usually drop a good chunk of change. If you can do it yourself, you can save money, but must have the tools/shop, etc. Then you have to find an engine. You hope to find one with low mileage and trust that it's not going to need rebuilding. Or, do you rebuild one to know for sure what's going into your swap. Or do you buy a "reman" or "rebuilt" with some kind of warranty? Is a 3RZ from 22R swap a drop in? How much fabricating and modifications are needed? Are there any "off-the-shelf" adapters available? Who here has done this swap?

| | Marlin now has an RZ to R tranny bellhousing. Here.
That's a V6/turbo 5 speed tranny R151F (1986-87 Turbo 22R-TE) or a R150F (1988-95 3.0 and 1996-04 3.4 L V6)
