Default Weld trailing arms?

Hi I have a sand rail and last time I was out I broke the shock mount off my trailing arm and want to know if I weld it if there's a chance I can get another season out of it or if I should replace it. $$ is a chalenge so if I can pull another year out I will.

Hey Tim,
If you do a good welding job it should be at least as strong as it was before it broke off. Maybe someone knows better than me but since no one else has stepped in I thought I would add my $.02.

i am assuming you have an irs rear. i would go ahead and weld it. if you have a swing axle sorry but you cannot weld cast iron.

The last post is wrong cast iron can be welded but it needs to be preheated first than tig or arc welded with a ni-crome welding rod and cooled slowly i have welded suports on punch presses with this method and had no problems.

Weld-em up and run them!

Previous post are correct...if swing axle take caution welding cast. I know many folks who have welded with no problems and then again I have heard horror stories about the metal disenegrating around the weld (the weld stays together, the metal around it falls apart)

IRS trailing arms are usually good ole steel and can easily be welded. I have welded them up in the past with no problems. In fact there are numerous kits out there for welding onto stock arms to make them stronger.

Bigger question...why did it break? You might need to make sure you don't have another problem going on.
