Default 1700 motor questions

ok entering the baja 1000 next year come hell or high water (whatever that means)
picked up a bug that came with a 1700 motor cb block, half tore apart but seems to be all there.
actual question is can i put any jugs in this bad boy with normal (1600 block) machining? where can i get parts for the 1700, looking to build a reliable motor with what i currently own. picked up a weber carb and intake so should i change gears now or am i on the right path?
