front axle seal...73 dodge

anyone know anything about changing the front axle seal on a 73 dodge 3/4 ton? its a dana 44 in front, and im told that the seal has to go in through the pumpkin on the diff, which involves pulling out all the gears and disassembling the whole thing, so if anyone knows the validity of this, or an easier way to do it, please post....

Sorry to inform you that the only way to replace the seals is to pull the carrier. The good news is that 44s are shimmed inside of the bearings so all you have to do is mark the caps for the carrier so you put them back on the same way they came off. It's really not that hard to do. The hardest part is pulling your axles, but it's about a 4 hour job.Good luck.
