| | | n00b looking for his first off-roader
As the title sates, I'm looking for a decent off-roader. I fell in love when I first saw the pre-runner type trucks, except most of the kits are limited to 2WD trucks, not 4WD, which is almost a necessity in Canada. Then i saw the Kore trucks, and just had to get one. Currently, I'm stuck at whether I want the Cummins diesel or Hemi. Which one gets better mileage, and is more reliable? Gas is at extravagant prices nowadays, and I don't want to spend my income paying for gas. (I realize that I'm contradicting myself, but I really want to supercharge my truck, or at least get more power out of it)
I was looking at the Unlimited Series of kits from Kore, and I have another question. Will Bilstein shocks be better suited compared to the stock Fox Pro ones, or should I leave them as is?
Finally, I'm confused with the wide range of tire choices. I want one that will be decent off-road, yet quiet enough so I don't have to wear earplugs. Are the BFG Mud Terrains a good choice? As for rims, I chose the American Racing Mojave Teflons. Any other suggestions? Beadlocks aren't important right now, since I don't plan on airing down the tires for the locks to be of any benefit, yet.
Thanks, Brendan

Depends on what driving you're doing, and your budget. IMHO I would pick the Cummins, because they have excellent torque, and are good for hauling. I know here in the States diesel about about 20 cents more than gas. I would say they are both very reliable engines, I haven't heard any bad things about the Hemi, and the Cummins engines are known to go forever(figureatively).
As for getting more bang for your buck, diesel engines gain much more torque and horsepower with simple upgrades than gas engines do. For example, you could spend $400 on a Superchips Tuner and get around 120hp and 250 ft. lbs of torque with a diesel, but on a gas you could only get around 50 and 90. ( I'm not sure what the exact numbers are, but they're somewhere near here).
The BFG Mud-Terrains are an excellent tire. They're not too loud on the highway, but they give you all the traction you'll need off-road.
Hope this helps
