Default tranny cooler

Hi

So I think I have a leak in my tranny cooler...I am seeing a small amount of red/brown liquid underneath the truck (2000 Dakota Quad Cab with the 5.9) as well as "sprayed" around a couple hoses and such underneath...

How exactly does a tranny cooler work?

What's the most likely reason for failure in tranny coolers? Might this be an easy fix?

Thanks...
Patrick

Not sure on your model, but as info.
I have a 98 Ram and in that model there is a radiator mounted cooler as well as a chamber in the radiator itself. Fluid flows through these. In my case when the shifter is in park the fluid does not circulate and leaks are not easy to detect. Shifter in neutral, wheels blocked, park brake on is the way to check under with a flashlight. There may be a safer way than this.
Check the manual for info on this info.
Lots of places where a leak can start. Check the fluid level. Could be a power steering leak...
