Default 05 Dodge Diesel exhaust ?

Hi,well i just bought my 05 4x4 quad diesel,(best truck) but anyways i cut out the muffler and added straight pipe and it sounds very good,LOUD the way i like it,but heres my ? i know i cant cut it off by law but i dont care about those factors but would it be louder and perform better if i cut the little cat/ res thingy off? and would it bother with my back pressure on my turbo? Thanks alot

Since the turbo operates better with a higher Temperature and Pressure differential across it, lack of backpressure is usually a good thing within reason. Losing the cat is rumored to help reduce EGT slightly as well as help the turbo spool slightly quicker. That having been said if you live in a place that smog checks it's a good idea to hold onto it just in case. In otherwords make sure to not mangle it upon removal as well...

I think I'm going to switch to an aftermarket exhaust with a pipe included for where the catalytic converter was. Some of them are very nice, all mandrel bent, stainless steel, etc. Of couse there's nothing wrong with homebrew either.

Well with the cat off now and no muffler its so loud that it shouldnt be drivin, so i guess the cat will go back on or i will leave it off and just put a flow master on it i guess who knows!

Definitely don't waste your time putting a flow master on there. While OK for a naturally aspirated engine it's not quite right for a turbocharged engine. Go for something a little more free flowing. Some people are having good luck with 51" Donaldson or Nelson brand mufflers for quiet.

Also, if you haven't found it yet, you should peruse the Turbo Diesel Register, which is a website dedicated to the Cummins powered Dodge Ram pickups. You can browse the majority of the sections for free, but to post and for search functionality it's $35/year, although that includes a quarterly magazine as well. But even if you stick with just browsing it for free it's an excellent resource.

I edited the link. If it doesn't work, just type in www.turbodieselregister.com into your browser.
