Default RMR ATV Series News: Thunder Ridge Event Preview

DERRY, N.H. (July 18, 2008) - While most folks are thinking about family vacations and relaxing days at the beach, ATV racers are focused on other things in mid July. The season is half over, with five down and five to go for those chasing championship points. It's that time of year when some riders start to fade while others are just hitting their peak.
All eyes will be focused on the track next weekend, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) gets set for Round 6 on the 10-race 2008 Can-Am Series on Sunday, July 27, at historic Thunder Ridge in South Edmeston, New York.
Gates open at 6:30 a.m. for racers and 8 a..m. for spectators. Racing will get under way promptly at 9 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-10, while children age 5 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Fans and racers are welcome to camp at the facility for just $10 per vehicle.
The day's program will begin with qualifying action for all classes. These qualifying races allow riders to learn quick lines around the challenging track. It all builds to an exciting climax at roughly 1 p.m. as Finals for all classes begin.
New this year for the Can-Am Series is a division between East and West points races, much like RMR does with its snocross programs. This makes it easier for teams to run for points titles without the added expense of extra travel. This will be a points race for West series teams.
Also new is the addition of a Five-round series for "Pit Bikes," which have become so popular in the last few years. There will be eight classes, broken down for Pro and Amateur riders and for 10-inch or 12-inch wheel diameter. RMR will partner with the Pit Bike Racing Association (PBRA) to bring this exciting new class into the mix.
In the series' first five rounds of competition, former Canadian national champion Jasmin Plante, Matt Pomeroy, James Stowell, Brian Daigle, Jason Rayder and Luke Marios have all posted Pro division victories. Plante swept the season opener at Hemond's MX Park in Minot, Maine, (May 11), Pomeroy and Stowell split the finals in Rounds 2 and 3 at Twister Valley (May 18) and Crow Hill Motor Sports Park (June 1), Daigle and Rayder split the Pro finals in Round 4 at Thornwood MX (June 22), while Marios swept Round 5 in Canaan, N.H., on Sunday, July 13.
In the Can-Am Series season finale last October at Thunder Ridge, Brent Miller swept the Pro class finals. Miller, of Norwich, NY, held off Mike Wood and Freddy Kiefer to claim the Pro Am Unlimited final, then capped a stellar day by winning the Pro Unlimited finale with Kiefer and Wood second and third respectively. Miller had recorded podium finishes during the season, but these were his first RMR Pro wins.
Thunder Ridge is situated on what was known as the Edmonds Farm in the early 1960s. It’s rich history includes competitions like Hare Scrambles in the late 1960s, when legends like Dick Mann used to dominate the races.
Rock Maple Racing is presented by your New England Dodge Dealers, who urge you to stop by today and see the full line of 2008 cars and trucks. Grab life by the horns! For more information, please visit us online at Welcome to Rock Maple Racing.
