| | | Bear Claw tires
I shopping for new tires for mud & rock riding. I do get in the sand quite a bit, but don't care about traction in the sand.
I'm leaning toward the Bear Claw from Kenda. I also like the new Goodyear Rawhides that come stock on the new Polaris Utilities.I'm sure the Goodyear price will sway me towards the Kenda's though.
Any one have opinions,suggestions?

ITP makes 2 great mud/trail tires, the Blackwater and Spider Trac. Both are good traction, self-cleaning tires. A friend of mine runs blackwaters on the back, and bear claws on the front of his '00 TRX300 2wd. He goes more places than many of the 4x4's.

Thanks for your reply.
I get the Blackwater suggestion a lot from people. Do you know the ply rating? I do a lot of rock climbing and need the 5-6 ply rating for puncture resistance. It seems the prices are all about the same so that's not an issue. Also, what is the tread depth on the Blackwaters? Bearclaws?

Bear Claws are definately a great tire. I solda set to my bud, and we put them on his 91 big bear .. 27x10-12's all around . . Awesome tire, very popular. I'd definately recommend them over the rawhide's. . .. however. . . im gonna point you towards Mud Bugs., Awesome tire, fairly new on the market. They're becomin real popular real quick . . Pretty srue they're 6 ply. .i'll check on that tomorrow for u. They're about 10-20 bucks more per tire, but well worth it if you ask me. Amazing tire. I'd also recommend the Highlifter Outlaw (they come in 28's too).. but they're wayy to oexpensice. Just on the market lately..

Bear Claws are Verry agressive in all terrain, They are also very good about punctures.
But they are beyond stiff. The ride they provide you with is harsh and will make you feel every thing on the trail this gets better with size though. The 20's and 22's are very rough. From there on the ride quality does improve. But not greatly. In the mud they fly due to wide spacing. I would only choose them if you have lots of power and shaft driven 2wd. If you have a 4wd Maxxis Sur Tracks Are The nicest for the price. My second choice would be Blackwaters But they are a little more money.
I hope this helps, Just keep in mind Choose your path carefully And if you want more info Let me know what your wheeler is. |

Trying the mudbugs wouldnt be a bad idea either. There pretty new. So I havent hear alot. Also TiTan 589's are great tires Top Performers in those two terrains Besides big dollar strictly mud tires. One more thing to keep in mind is what there made of, 6-ply Non corded will puncture easier that 4-ply corded tires. JUST MORE IDEAS. |

Thanks for the great input Flamin, Ride quality will not be an issue. I will either go with 25s or 26s havent decided about the top heavines of the taller tires yet. Also, I'm putting these on a 700 pound Polaris Sportsman 4x4 with the independent suspension. This bike rides like a cadilac so the stiffer tire should be OK. I didn't know there were corded and non-corded tires. Are the Bear Claws corded? What about the MudBugs?

Sportsman, Forget those two chooses. But to answer your question The bearclaws are not there just hard rubber compound. I am not sure about the mudbugs. I also would just forget the Idea of 25's go 26's Power obviously not an issue. Best tire choice for those two terrains would be <font color=red>AT589MT or <font color=red>AT589 I wouldnt even worry about top heavy, That is a great tire in the mud and rocks. You wouldnt be stopped. It would be very unlikly to pop them either. And in that size range price is basically the same. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
