Default fuel pump keeps running 88 F250

I have a 88 f-250 custom pickup 302 5spd 2wheel drive. Its ben sitting for 2 years. Only ran on the farm for wood a couple times.I replaced brake lines, changed fluid. The fuel pump keeps running . I understand it builds pressure and is supposed to shut off. But it doesn't shut off. Its hard starting sometimes. A shot of starting fuid and it starts. Any Ideas guys?

I had the same problem on my 89 f150 last week.
I opened the hood and gave the fuel pump relay bank a rap and it stopped running. Changed the relay for 23.00 dolars and it it OK now.

That's typically a sign of a dead EEC, but that's the LAST thing to replace because it's the most expensive & least likely (in general). Get a Haynes manual & a cheap multimeter, and see if the relay is sticking because the EEC is holding it on, or if it's mechanical (like MudLake's was). In either case, read the thread linked below.

For a LOT less money, you could have cut off those crappy Ford-style relays & swapped in the more common, more RELIABLE Bosch/ISO style relays used on '92-96 trucks. Read this thread.
